Mesa 26.2.4 is a driver bug-fix release

Mesa 26.2.4, released 1 October, fixes bugs found since 26.2.3 across the OpenGL, Vulkan, and OpenCL drivers.

Mesa 26.2.4 was released on 1 October 2026. It is a bug-fix release on the 26.2 branch, picking up problems found since 26.2.3. There is no new graphics API in it. The library still implements OpenGL 4.6, Vulkan 1.4, and OpenCL 3.1, and the version a particular GPU actually reports still depends on the driver. OpenGL 4.6 is only available when the application asks for it at context creation. A compatibility context can report something older.

The notes call out a video bug that showed up with 26.2: on Radeon GPUs with VPE, including the 890M, vaGetImage to I420 or YUYV failed with UNSUPPORTED_RT_FORMAT. If a capture or transcode path broke on those chips after a Mesa update, this is the release that is supposed to put it back. Other fixes are smaller and more specific. Fragment-shader loops on old nv40 hardware, multisample color buffers for the software image loader, viewport clipping in llvmpipe when the linear rasterizer is off, and a handful of core Mesa bookkeeping fixes around texture-buffer formats and glGet values.

That mix is typical of a point release. Most machines will not hit the nv40 bug. A laptop with a new Radeon iGPU and a video pipeline might. Distributions will roll 26.2.4 into their update stream. Building Mesa yourself means taking the 26.2.4 tarball rather than staying on 26.2.3 and hoping the video path was one of the machines that did not break.

The version string an application prints is not the Mesa package version. Check the distro package, or glxinfo and the Vulkan driver version, before you decide the update is already there.
